County Health Department Will Offer Free H1N1 Vaccinations at LHS this Saturday

The Saint Louis County Department of Health will be offering free H1N1 flu vaccinations to county residents at Lindbergh High School this Saturday, Nov. 7.

Due to the limited supply of vaccine, preference will be given to residents who fall in one of the five high priority groups identified by the CDC. Those five groups are:

  • Pregnant women
  • Children from 6 months of age through 4 years of age
  • Caregivers of and those who live with infants under the age of 6 months
  • Youth ages 5-18 with an underlying health condition that makes them more susceptible to flu complications
  • Emergency medical service personnel and healthcare workers.

LHS is one of five high schools participating in the clinics. Those wishing to be vaccinated will need to obtain a line ticket from one of the five clinic locations prior to being vaccinated. Line tickets will be available at each location starting at 7 a.m., and vaccinations will be administered between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Prop L Passes – Thank You, Voters

Lindbergh Schools would like to thank all of our residents who voted for Proposition L in the Nov. 3 election. Prop L passed with 65.75 percent of the vote, and will help to secure financial security for the district in the years to come.

“Without Prop L, if our property tax rate ever should exceed $2.75, we would have had to give back approximately $2 million in funding,” said Pat Lanane, assistant superintendent for finance. “Thanks to our voters, Prop L will change that. It waives the rollback so the district will only be required to ask for what we really need. We’ll get to keep the entire amount we ask for to fund student programs, and our tax rate will stay low.”

Prop L prevents the loss of $2 million in future state funding for the district by waiving a decades-old property tax rollback. It will exempt Lindbergh from a state initiative passed in 1982 called Proposition C, which established a one-cent sales tax for educational spending. Prop L will allow the district to keep all the sales tax money sent to the district.

By asking voters to waive the property tax rollback, Lindbergh joins 431 districts in the state of Missouri – and 18 of 23 districts in St. Louis County – that have already done so.

"Prop L will allow more state dollars to stay in the district, at no cost to the taxpayers, and we are extremely thankful to our voters for supporting Lindbergh Schools once again,” Lanane said.

Update on Additional H1N1 Vaccines

In the past week, Lindbergh Schools has been able to vaccinate more than 1,000 students for H1N1 at open clinics, and we now have a limited amount of injectable and FluMist H1N1 vaccines remaining. At this time, there are not enough doses remaining to hold a clinic, so we will begin vaccinating a small number of students during the school day.

If you are comfortable with your child being vaccinated at his or her school without your presence, please turn in the “Influenza A H1N1 Immunization Consent and History” form previously mailed to you.  Additional copies of this form are available for pick up at the Lindbergh Administration Building, 4900 S. Lindbergh Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63126. We will collect consent forms on a first-come, first-serve basis to determine who will receive the vaccine at school.

Lindbergh Teachers Vote 6-1 to Endorse Agreement

Last night our Lindbergh Teachers met to vote on the tentative agreement which was drafted by our two negotiating teams.

I am very pleased to report that our teachers have endorsed a new agreement with their "YES" votes for Lindbergh Schools. Their vote was ratified by a 6-to-1 margin.

The next step to finalize this agreement will be for our Board of Education to vote and approve this document.

This 10-month process was one of the longest negotiation efforts that Lindbergh Schools has ever experienced. But in the long run, I am confident this collaboration of hard work and time spent has allowed us to create a working agreement that will serve our students, staff and community in the very best way possible.

My sincere thanks and appreciation to all who have contributed to this cause.

Assistant Superintendent for Personnel
